Working Committees
Executive
Responsible for leadership of The Association, long range planning, and nomination of candidates to serve on the board.
- Composed of the current President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and the two past presidents or their appointees.
Annual Meeting
Responsible for planning and executing The Association’s Annual Meeting, which traditionally takes place the first Monday in May.
- Composed of the Chair, plus four members.
Beautification
Responsible for coordinating Tree Replacement Program and replanting of flowers in medians; ensuring clean up of neighborhood, including Home Tour area; hanging and taking down Holiday wreaths on neighborhood street lamps; coordinating repair and replacement of damaged or missing Central Gardens perimeter signs; and retagging Arboretum trees within the neighborhood.

Communications
Includes maintenance of the CGA database and website (www.centralgardens.org), and editing of the Association’s quarterly newsletter that is mailed to all residents. It also includes determining the eligibility and feasibility of marketing options and advertising in Association publications under federal laws governing the Association’s 501©3 status, as well as to establish strict guidelines for such advertising, should it be legal and not jeopardize the tax exempt status of the Association. All CGA communications are reviewed by the Vice President prior to dissemination.

- Composed of the Chair/Editor. All board members are encouraged to make suggestions for story ideas to the Editor.
- Marketing

Community Spirit
To further a sense of community among all residents of Central Gardens.
July 4th Parade
This event has been a Central Gardens tradition for more than 30 years, and normally is attended by 300-400 neighborhood family members. The parade takes place Independence Day morning in the 1500 block of Carr Ave. (between Willett & Rozelle), and includes several free refreshment concessions and a program consisting of several children’s and pet’s patriotic costume competitions, some patriotic music and a raffle for several children’s door prizes. In addition, units from the City’s police and fire departments normally are invited to participate.
This event requires coordinating several neighborhood volunteers and executing numerous details.

Springfest
This event normally is held in the Grace St. Luke’s parking lot at the southeast corner of Peabody and Belvedere on a Sunday afternoon in late April. It consists of some children’s inflatable play areas (Slide and Moon Bounce), live music, hot dog and beer concessions.

Home Tour
A Central Gardens neighborhood tradition, this very important event is the key annual fundraiser for The Association. Five to six residences customarily are included in each year’s tour. Several months of planning and coordination are required to make this activity a success. Volunteers are needed to help with planning and for hosting at one of the homes on the day of the tour.
- Composed of the Chair. All board members are expected to participate in either planning and/or volunteering on the day of the tour.
Landmarks, Zoning & Compliance
Responsible for addressing issues that arise pertaining to the maintenance of the neighborhood’s architectural heritage through application of the Central Gardens Historic Zoning Design Guidelines, conformance with City of Memphis Landmarks Commission guidelines, and compliance with current City and County zoning and building code enforcement regulations.

Legal
Responsible for advising the board and taking any necessary action with respect to legal issues that impact Central Gardens.
- Composed of the Chair (an attorney), plus one member (also an attorney).
Membership
Responsible for all matters relating to CGA Association membership, including coordinating the annual membership renewal effort; compiling and distributing Newcomer’s Packets to all new residents of the neighborhood; merchandising of CGA souvenir items; and coordinating the work of membership-related activities involving neighborhood volunteers, aka Membership Ambassadors.

Security
Responsible for promoting awareness of the measures being taken to make Central Gardens a safe neighborhood. These include disseminating helpful security tips to neighborhood residents, sharing information with the Midtown Security Community alliance, working to strength The Association’s relationship with the Union Avenue Police Station, and facilitating subscription to a private security patrol.

Ad-hoc/Special Projects
Responsible for coordinating those projects identified by the chair as worthy of The Association’s support in order to strengthen relationships with the neighborhood, or directly benefit The Association.
